Construction Updates

  • Contractor has been issued Notice to Proceed effective June 24, 2009.
  • The 30th Street Bridge was reopened to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic on July 22, 2010.
  • The Thomas Jefferson Street Bridge was reopened on February 8, 2011.
    • Completion date is July 3, 2012.

    January 30, 2012 Update

    • The 29th Street Bridge was closed to traffic on February 17, 2011.
      • Work has started to re-locate the existing utilities.
      • Temporary gas line has been installed over the Canal.
      • The 12" water line has been cut and capped at each end of the bridge. 
      • Relocation of the fiber optic telecommeunications lines is ongoing.
      • Subcontractor Hayward Baker has completed jet grouting and micropiling operations for Phase 1 of the construction.
      • The abutment footers have been completed and Beams 1 thru 5 (of 9) have been set in place.
      • 12" and 16" gas line relocations are complete and both lines are in service.
      • Relocation of PEPCO 13kV lines remain before Phase Two of the bridge can be built.
      • Fiber optic lines have been shifted east away from the new bridge's footprint.  Lines will be shifted back to the bridge once Phase Two concrete is complete and the steel beams have been set. 
      • Relocation of the 13kV PEPCO lines started on 12/12/11 and is ongoing.
